Marco Valerio Lo Prete comments that Italian government is engaged in verbal hyperactivity but no action. The most absurd example is the talk about another spending review. In 2012 the government of Mario Monti identified more than €200bn of possible cuts in public spending. After a year, and many missed opportunities, Saccomanni decided to call another spending review. The purpose can only be to give the illusion that the Treasury is doing something. But there is no long-term planning, says Lo Prete.
